This image was created using the Earth and Moon Viewer. This a great site created by John Walker. You can create maps or globes of the Earth or the Moon as viewed from the Sun or the Moon (or Earth), with or without a nightside, with or without clouds. The Earth can be viewed at any time, over any longitude or latitude, as seen by a number of satellites -- the options are many and varied. Go to this site and have some fun. Very cool.

I was having a lot of difficulty finding an acceptable image for this view of Earth. Although there are many beautiful NASA pictures of the full Earth taken by astronauts or satellites, none have been taken from above San Francisco. I was considering a variety of options including taking a picture of a globe when I found John Walker's site.
