Aspens are widespread in North America and most often reproduce by cloning. An aspen grove covering 43 hectares is growing near Salt Lake City, Utah. Larger groves may exist. This image covers 100 hectares so the cloned aspen would cover half of this scene.

A single individual of soil fungus (Armillaria bulbosa) in Michigan has been found to permeate more than 30 acres of forest soil.
